Confidential briefing from Premier Romanov, Leader of the United Soviet Empire:
Ah, Comrade, good of you to come. We will need your stategic expertise to triumph over both the accursed traitor Yuri and
the sniveling Allied cowards. I began this war to fulfill my dream of restoring the Soviet Union to its rightful place as
the leader of the civilized world, and by Stalin, I shall see that dream come to fruition!
Now listen closely as I describe the steps I have taken to create the most formidable army the world has ever seen. First
we will review the military structures of the mighty Soviet Empire. With a base so equipped, our victory is
inevitable.
Soviet Construction Yard
To ensure the survival of the Soviet Construction Yard, the core of any Soviet base, we have increased its strength by 50%.
Soviet Base Expansion Node - New Building!
It was Stalin's dream for the Soviet Union to expand throughout the world, and here is a way to make it happen. Base
Expansion Nodes can be used as the nuclei of new bases and deployed defenses throughout the battlefield. Like our
Construction Yard, you cannot build this building directly. You must instead erect it by deploying our new
Base Expansion Vehicle.
Why not simply build a new MCV you may ask. Well comrade, I will tell you. An Expansion Vehicle costs only half what an MCV
does, and here is the real beauty of it: The Base Expansion Node, unlike a Conyard, requires very little room. Be careful
where you decide to deploy, comrade - its compact size makes it impossible to repack, meaning you can only deploy the
vehicle ONCE.
Note: The Soviet Base Expansion Vehicle, and the Soviet Base Expansion Node, are only available in
multiplayer/skirmish games.
Tesla Reactor
This basic power plant serves its purpose well, and needs no changes. Our precious rubles are spent elsewhere, as you will see.
Soviet Barracks
Here is where our loyal troops are trained. Again, no changes are necessary for this most basic of structures.
Soviet Ore Refinery
Since the cost of War Miners has been reduced, so has the cost of the Soviet Ore Refinery ($1600 vs. $2000 previously).
Comrade, please keep in mind our modern ore refining process is a much more dangerous endeavor than it was before. When a
refinery is destroyed, it will explode. This explosion should not damage neighboring buildings overly much, but it can be
devastating to any infantry and vehicles nearby.
New effects: Yellow smoke is released from the refinery smokestacks when a miner delivers ore; and when destroyed, the
refinery will scatter ore debris in the vicinity.
Soviet War Factory
Our enemies cannot hope to challenge the mighty Soviet mechanized armor that rolls from this facility. Now our War Factories
also can build Amphibious Transports.
Service Depot
Speed and efficiency improvements for repairs are available to our land units, just as they are to our naval units. At our
Repair Facility, it now costs far less to effect repairs on damaged vehicles, and repairs are done much more quickly. No
longer is it a question of whether or not a wise commander should build this structure - he should indeed!
Soviet Shipyard
Superior Soviet efficiency exhibits itself yet again in improvements to our Shipyard's repair function. Repairs to our
vessels can be made much more cheaply and in far less time. Sadly, an unfortunate side-effect of our alterations to the
building design means it is vulnerable to superweapon strikes.
Soviet Radar
No changes have been made to the radar structure itself, but the improvements made to our Spy Planes is very significant.
Spy Planes can no longer be shot down. AA defenses and units with AA capability will not even try to shoot at them. This
means that the Spy Planes will reveal the area intended without fail.
Further, to lessen the annoying time lag between targeting and the planes actually arriving, the speed of the Spy Plane has
been more than doubled. And, instead of revealing a rather useless long narrow strip, the planes will reveal a larger, more
useful round area (similar to the size and shape of the area unshrouded by the traitor Yuri's Psychic Reveal). For good measure,
we will send 2 Spy Planes rather than one, and while this does not increase the area unshrouded, it may increase the amount of
time that a Gap Generator effect can be thwarted.
Soviet Battle Lab
Is there any doubt that Soviet technology is superior? This building gives us access to the Motherland's latest and
most destructive weaponry, and also to the amazing Force Shield defense effect. Therefore this building is also one that
needs no improvement.
Nuclear Reactor
Nothing can match the incredible output of the Soviet Nuclear Reactor. I have decided there is no need to attempt to
improve upon this engineering feat, and I am sure you will agree.
New effect: A damaged Nuclear Reactor will emit green smoke.
Industrial Plant
When the traitor Yuri stole our cloning technology, he robbed us of one of our great strengths: The ability to train mass
numbers of infantry at low cost. While our newly enhanced infantry forces are very much worth training, being able to save
on training costs would be welcome, would it not Comrade? Our clever Soviet Engineers have modified the Industrial Plant so
that we can now reduce not only vehicle costs, but also infantry training costs by 25%.
As with all improvements, a risk must be accepted. The Industrial Plant will explode violently when destroyed, and highly
dangerous gasses will be released. These gasses will linger for some time, killing any nearby infantry and will also damage
vehicles.
As you can see, a Soviet base will produce an unstoppable army. But we must be prepared to defend these bases as well. Let
us speak now of the formidable Soviet Armory.
