Second Development Update

I've just wrapped up 1.72, the second internal development version since the last public release. There's nothing really earth-shattering in this one, since it contains mostly incremental-type work, if you know what I mean. As veteran visitors to the site already know, the details are listed on the development page.

An ongoing effort in CR has always been to improve appearances of in-game objects as well as their performance and usefulness. This beta includes a new animation for the Gap Generator (curiously, the game already includes and uses code for an animation, though the images for that animation are not present), and some better-looking missiles for the CR Crocodile Tank (the missiles in the currently-available version are simply recolored sub torpedoes). Here's what the Croc missiles look like now:

Putting one development version to bed always serves to give me a solid basis for beginning the next version. If all goes well, my plan for the next development version will be to add the Grand Rapier Missile, a defensive structure used by France in Beyond Revenge mode. No promises of course, but that's the plan.

Some Graphics...

While the animated images for the damaged Robot Control Center are present in the game, missing and incorrect code prevent it from ever being played. Also, the animated shadows for the regular animation aren't played either. The next release of CR will correct these errors and omissions in the unmodded game, and at the same time will also include this somewhat improved artwork and animation sequence for the Robot Control Center. (Fire animations have been disabled for this web presentation to give a better look at the building art.)

Development Updates Resume

I've just made the private v1.71 available to my beta testers. Details of what's been done so far can be found on the development page, as usual. In addition to the new Fireclaw unit (see previous news post) and support for more music tracks (as announced in the forum), significant new AI work has been added, along with a few tweaks here and there.
